SoundCloud Cips: Soul On Fire, Follow My Heart
Interscope released 90s snippets for the Deluxe Album. But instead of the 14 songs expected, there were 16. It turns out they released two additional songs: Soul On Fire, Follow My Heart meant for the international edition (not clear if they are in addition to or in lieu of the other bonus tracks). During her chat today, she mentioned that they were meant for the International market. In any event, listen below, tracks 11-16.

Listen Up! — out May 22 — draws heavily on the neo-soul and girl-group R&B of artists like Adele, Duffy and the late Amy Winehouse. But Haley puts her distinctive twists on the genre, and fans of the Illinois singer likely will be thrilled with the wayListen Up! turned out.…
Liar. “There’s a right side and a wrong side” in any relationship gone wrong — but which side is Haley on? That’s the big question in this mysterious soul song, where she seems to have the support the background singers, but they might just be enabling her so she can keep lying to herself.

“I’m lucky in that Chicago is such a great city and I get to get home there from time to time, and it’s a blessing to be with my family, but even if I’m completely exhausted and supposed to be taking a break at home, I can’t do it,” says the former “American Idol” finalist and Wheeling native, whose debut album “Listen Up!” is out Tuesday. “When nighttime rolls around, I’m a night owl so I’ll be out doing something!”
“Listen Up!” is a pretty good debut, 10 tracks of retro-ish pop featuring guests such as B.O.B. on the single, “Oh My!” and guitarist Harry Reinhart, Haley’s dad, on four songs.
Last season on American Idol, Haley Reinhart struggled to find suitable material for the swoops and slides of her free-wheeling, bluesy vocal style. That’s not so on Listen Up!, a vivacious bit of post-Adele neo-soul. From reverb-drenched Oh My! to Motown-influenced gems like Wasted Tears andWonderland, Reinhart has grooves that should thrill her fans from the show. — Brian Mansfield
…, people wanting me to come out as soon as possible with a record. I really stressed the fact that I wanted to be a part of it completely. I have this huge opportunity given from Interscope, and I wanted them to realize that I am a creative type. I’ve been a songwriter before Idol. I’ve been surrounded by music. So all these visions that I have, I wanted to be able to have that time, that space, to make it come to life.”
The first single, entitled Free, is an upbeat sounding number with soaring vocals which belie the fact that it’s about a breakup. Still, she says, “it’s more of an empowering breakup song. You should feel good after hearing it, knowing that even though we love each other we need to break this thing off so we can truly be happy.”
….The song itself still has that old swampy New Orleans jive to it.” The priority, she says, was in “getting a rapper and making sure that it was tasteful. That’s the most important thing. There’s a lot of rap out there, but the kind that I would like to represent on the album, if I do that, would definitely have to be somebody who’s tasteful about it.”
In the middle of an otherwise loud album is the gently soaring ballad Undone, which Haley wrote with neo-Motown singer MoZella and Rob Kleiner, a song which took her into new territory. “I’m not used to ballads,” she says honestly. “It’s a little bit more poppy than I’m used to, the changes and everything. It’s different for me. What I found from showing people is that they’re captivated by it. I’m happy that people can really truly relate to it. I put myself in a really heartbroken place, and I think that’s something that everybody has felt at some point.”
The second half of the album picks back up the pace. Now That You’re Here sounds like it could garner airplay in dance clubs, of which she says “I really like funk and R&B, the stuff that you can groove to.” Wonderland is a pure throwback. “It’s an anthem for ladies out there. It’s a love song. I’ve felt love, so it’s around the corner if you just look for it. That’s a tribute to old Motown.”
… “Listen Up!” is all shape, all fixed-data points for Ms. Reinhart to adhere to — a taut album full of meaty, thickly arranged pop-soul that suits her booming voice extremely well.
Ms. Reinhart still isn’t a pop star, but that’s fine. Produced primarily by Rob Kleiner and busbee, these songs hark back to the 1960s and ’70s, when Motown girl groups were ceding ground to soul-driven rock. It’s singers’ territory that shows off both the smooth power of Ms. Reinhart’s voice and its engine-revving churn. She lingers elegantly over notes at the end of lines, as on “Now That You’re Here,” and can tighten up into a growl when needed, as on “Liar.”
In contemporary pop terms, this is territory staked out by the likes of Bruno Mars, and the long shadow of Amy Winehouse hangs over the more wrenching soul numbers like “Wasted Tears” and “Oh My!,” on which Ms. Reinhart sounds comfortable, even flirty…
“American Idol” season 10 contestant Haley Reinhart thrilled fans with her jazzy, smoky vocals. On her new album, “Listen Up,” out Tuesday, May 22, she recalls sultry vocalists such as Amy Winehouse and Dusty Springfield, both of whom she considers major influences: “I come from a lot of ‘60s, ‘70s classic stuff and that’s definitely the sound I want to have,” she tells Hitfix in this video interview taped at her management company’s office in West Hollywood. But it was another influence, Britney Spears, that inspired the 21-year old’s performance in her video for first single “Free,” during which she gets a boy all hot and bothered at a diner. “I grew up with my generation looking at people like Britney Spears. She oozed sex appeal so effortlessly.”
On her debut album, Listen Up!, Haley Reinhart stands out as both soulful and sweet.Nodding to a classic sound with a modern feistiness, the American Idolseason ten finalist adds an elegance to 21st century pop.

Haley Reinhart Hits Hard Rock on Album Release Eve (Video) [The Hollywood Reporter, 5/22]
Opening with the torch song “Wasted Tears,” Reinhart segued into her current single “Free,” which she proudly announced is doing well on iTunes. The smoky-voiced Chicago area native is a luminous presence even in a darkened club on Hollywood Blvd., steps away from where Idol’s Hollywood Week has traditionally been held. Reinhart’s soulful rendition of The Animals’ classic “House of the Rising Sun” was just as powerful as it sounded from the Idol stage, and a performance of The Beatles’ “Oh, Darling” had all the grit of a ‘1970s jam session.

Her debut album Listen Up! hits stores today— you can order it now here— and is a solid step into solo stardom with its mix of infectious, summer-ready tunes, soulful melodies, and artistic riffs.
Jon: Those three are really my favorites so it’s great to hear your perspective on how they came about. Do you have a second single already lined up?
Haley: I’m not really allowed to say but I originally thought “Oh My” would be the first song out, so you never know. That might be an option. Nothing is set in stone yet.
Jon: Gotcha! Fair enough. Now I’ve got some fan questions that were sent in via Twitter. You have a very loyal fanbase.
Haley: I know! They’re a little crazy but I love them.

Case in point is the fine new record put out by Haley Reinhart, Listen Up (19/ Interscope). Reinhart’s the bluesy singer who got bounced just before the finale last year and she has avoided the typical watered down, overproduced Idol debut album curse. This is a gutsy, well sung set of songs that accentuates her throaty vocals.

Haley Reinhart “Listen Up” [Vs. Magazine Online Blog, 5/24]
Move over Adele, there’s a new jazz girl in town, with a little more pop…Haley Reinhart. She’s got soul, spunk, and a smokey voice that’s beyond memorable. Her album just debuted, “Listen Up,” and is truly stunning. It combines elements of jazz and soul with pop and hip-hop. So Listen Up before she hits mainstream.
If you are like me and are one of the handful of American’s who doesn’t keep up with American Idol, then Haley Reinhart’s powerhouse vocals might be completely shocking to you. The first time I heard Haley’s voice was when I listened to her debut album Listen UP! I was blown away by how talented and refreshing she is as an artist. I went back and watched her American Idol performances on YouTube to understand who she is as a performer. You can tell Listen UP! is Haley’s album from it’s 50’s blues soul accompanied with a modern twist to keep her style of music fresh. I can’t get over how much I love Haley’s powerhouse vocals. And she proves that you don’t need to use autotune to have a hit song on the radio.
Listen Up! delivers way beyond your typical Idol ear candy. Considered as a piece of music outside of the realm of reality singing competitions, the album is among the first to capitalize on neo-soul trailblazers. We know Adele as the exception. We know her as the reason we feel comfortable buying the hit singles of auto-tuned pop tarts with our spare change. “I have 21, see! I do have great taste!” Thus, you get away with your guilty pleasures. Adele is a free pass. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Adele and her concert DVD Live at the Royal Albert Hall is a must see for any fan of modern music, but Haley Reinhart does something different here. This album isn’t an excuse or an exception to today’s general music world. Listen Up! is something new, yet readily digestible. It’s the new breed and the new standard.
